Sidewalk Replacement Program
The City
of Fruita
maintains an active sidewalk replacement program designed to assist
Homeowners and Homeowner Associations with replacement of unsafe, cracked and
deteriorating sidewalks. The
program is available through the Public Works Department.
If a sidewalk appears to be unsafe or has heaved and is unsafe
as determined by a Public Works
Department representative, arrangements can be made by the Homeowner or
Association to have the side walk replaced and the City of Fruita will reimburse
the Homeowner or Association for 80 % of the cost of replacement. Following are
the general procedures for sidewalk replacement:
- Contact the Public Works Department and provide the location
of the defective sidewalk. Provide your name and a phone number, and address
where you can be reached for consultation regarding the sidewalk.
- A representative of Public Works will inspect the sidewalk
and confirm approval for replacement.
- The Homeowner or Association can then obtain estimates from
contractors to replace the sidewalk. A copy of the estimate will need to be
reviewed and approved by the Public Works Department.
- After approval of the estimate by Public Works the Homeowner
or Association may proceed with replacing the sidewalk.
- A Right-of-Way permit will need to be obtained from Public
Works for the work that is to be done. This permit can be obtained from the
Public Works Department. The charge for the permit will be waived for this
project by the Public Works Department. The contractor completing the work
will be required to obtain the permit.
- When the sidewalk is replaced and the invoice is received by
the Homeowner or Association, a copy is to be provided to the Public Works
Department. A final inspection will be completed by a Public Works
representative to confirm proper construction of the sidewalk. The invoice will be processed and a
check for 80% of the cost will be sent to the homeowner or association.
If the homeowner has difficulty locating a contractor, the
Public Works Department maintains a list of potential contractors that perform
this type of work. The list may be obtained by contacting the Public Works
Department at 858-9558 during the regular working hours of 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM,
Monday through Friday. Contact persons include John
McBride or Tom
Huston .
